Hello and a warm welcome to Wisteria Class!

My name is Mrs Powell and I am the class teacher. I will be working alongside Mrs Littlejones, one of our literacy teachers and Miss Nazia, our class teaching assistant. We are very excited about this school year!

Our Topic

Our theme this year is 'Change'. During the first week of term, children have been asked what they would like to learn about. Their ideas are very important because they will form a large part of our learning.

Water & Snacks

Could you please ensure that children bring a named water bottle to school with them each day. As we no longer have milk and fruit once children reach Year 4, we suggest a healthy snack for playtime e.g. a piece of fruit or some vegetable sticks. Due to nut allergies around school, it is very important that children do not bring food containing nuts of any sort.

Reading Books, Spelling and Homework

Reading books need to be brought to school daily and we ask that reading is encouraged each day at home. We will make every effort to check children’s reading books and reading records each week.

Spellings will be given out on Friday afternoon and the children will be tested on a Wednesday morning.

Homework books for both English and Maths will be sent home during the first half term. It would be great if you could encourage your child to complete these over the year and support with the answers. These books are yours to keep and do not need to be brought back into school.

Physical Education

Physical Education will take place each week. Please ensure P.E kits are in school each day as occasionally our timetable changes. P.E kits should consist of a tshirt, jogging bottoms or shorts and preferably trainers although plimsols are also acceptable. All items should be clearly labelled with your childs name; this helps us to trace any missing items!

Swimming will take place in the spring term every Tuesday afternoon. Swimming is a compulsory part of the curriculum so unless your child has a medical reason along with a letter of proof from the GP, they will be expected to take part.

We have an open door policy at Dunkirk and are always happy to talk to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come and speak to us and we will do our best to arrange a mutually convenient time.

Best wishes,

Wisteria Class Team
