Welcome to Cypress Class!
I'm Miss Stray, and alongside Mrs Clay, Mrs Lodge and Mrs Naz I will be teaching Year Six and supporting them so that they can reach their full potential.
Our whole school topic for the year is 'Change' and Cypress class have made a great start thinking about all the many different directions this topic could take us in. We will be exploring the many ways the world is changing, how we are changing as people, investigating the different things that cause change and most importantly thinking about our impact on change!
Reading - It is important that Year Six are reading regularly at home and filling in their reading records.
Spelling - Children will have spellings to learn every week and half termly challenges. We will be investigating many different spelling rules, including how to add prefixes and suffixes as well as spelling homophones and knowing which one to use.
Buster books – Cypress class are going to be working through their Buster books and should follow the timetable that has been given to them. They should use the books as a revision guide rather than feeling like it is a test. They are encouraged to look up answers if they are finding something tricky and we will look at the books together every week so I can offer them support when needed.
Homework challenges – Cypress will be given homework challenges based on our school theme of ‘Change’. This is an opportunity for Cypress to take ownership over the tasks they do and really show their creativity. I am looking forward to seeing the results!
Cypress have PE every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. They should bring in their PE kits on a Monday and keep them in school during the week. P.E kits should consist of a t-shirt, jogging bottoms or shorts and preferably trainers although plimsolls are also acceptable. All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name; this helps us to trace any missing items!
