Tool Safety- Madrono demonstrate how to prepare 30cm wooden pieces for model making.
All the natural materials we use for our out-door challenges do not just prepare them selves. Dunkirk primary school children are always involved in helping to prepare resources and maintain the out-door areas.
Learning to make risk assessments is not just the priority of the adults at Dunkirk Primary. Children are encouraged to make their own risk assessments and openly discuss safety issues. Dangers should always be highlighted and safety considerations can only be made by thoughtful, problem solving individuals.
On this day one of the activities was the embodiment of this philosophy. Safe use of saws whilst making accurate measurements to cut sticks all of the same length. Take a look at the Gallery of photographs to see the results. The children assessed their own accuracy as each group posed with their collection of sticks.
