Our Visit to Pakistan - 2010

Mrs Asima Qureshi, Mr Jon Jenkins and Ms Lisa Hayes visited  The Lahore Lyceum in February 2010. This visit is part of the teacher exchange programme under the British Council's Global Curriculum Grant Programme.  The grant funds two teachers from each school for three years to visit their link schools.

During the visit we further investigated the potential of solar energy. By the end of the week there was a computer, light and fan set up in the school's ICT suite all powered by a portable solar panel set up on the school's roof. This was done after measuring the sun's intensity in both schools. We also investigated the local environment and went on a journey through the local Jinnah Gardens looking at what was in the gardens and what we could learn from it. Lots of growing and planting took place in the new Global Garden the school had begun. We planted particularly English herbs and also did some traditional English cooking! A spicy version of Shepherd's Pie was prefered by the staff and pupils compared to the more authentic one!!! We also had another stimulus in The Box of Possibilities. This time there was a newspaper baby with lots of labels attached to it like 'Feed Me, Shelter Me, Inspire Me, Teach Me, Love Me'. The children then explored the idea of what a safe space is. A film has been made reflecting both schools responses.
