The Science of Sound
Our science topic has been sound.
Although it looks like Russ has been boring the class to sleep with tales of his dogs (again!), the children are, in fact, conducting an experiment in vibration.
We learned that sound is created when something vibrates and sends waves of energy (vibration) into our ears. The vibrations travel through the air or another medium (solid, liquid or gas) to the ear. The stronger the vibrations, the louder the sound. Sounds are fainter the further you get from the sound source.
The children were tapping on the underside of their desks to discover how faintly they could tap and still hear the vibrations through the desk.
