Barbara Hepworth

During the summer term, Year 1 have been learning about another significant artist, Barbara Hepworth.

The children in Olive Class have shown high levels of enthusiasm for art and design this year and   throughout the summer term we have been learning about another famous artist, Barbara Hepworth.   We have learnt about her history and how she loved the countryside and undulating hills and fields.

The children have continued to use their sketch books to create their own versions of Barbara Hepworth   style artwork, showing their understanding of abstract art and adding comments and likes and dislikes   about their own efforts.

Finally, they manipulated and folded paper and card to create a type of abstract sculpture. They included   string and wool, showing the lines of connectivity that Barbara Hepworth wrote about in her journals. The children can now talk about why she included these lines in her work and how they are important for humans to feel a sense of connection to the land and nature.
