Dunkirk Primary School

History

Welcome to the Dunkirk Primary School History page! At Dunkirk, we are passionate about all things historical and strongly believe that the education of history is a crucial part of our curriculum. It is essential that all pupils build a deep knowledge of the past, learn a respect for its people and have an appreciation of how historians make sense of the past.

If you would like to know more about the knowledge, skills and topics covered in your child's history  education, on this link to look at our Nursery to Year 6 History skills progression document.

As part of our work on developing pupils' ability to know more and remember more, we are passionate about ensuring that our History lessons are the driver for learning in other subjects. Topics that take place not only have clear links to reading and writing, but they are also linked to Geography, DT, Art and our Take Action Projects through our themed work. Take a look at our Long Term Plan for September 2023 which details exactly what your child will be learning and when.

Staff use our skills progression and Long Term Plan to create bespoke Medium Term Plans specific to the current cohort of children. These are planned with the History subject lead ensuring that all teachers are delivering high quality lessons, inline with our pedagogical approaches and are the experts in that subject. If you would like to learn more about your child's lessons, please talk to your child's class teacher.
