Diversity and Equality Book Spine

At Dunkirk, we know and recognise how important it is to be represented. That is why we ensure that the books that we read to children celebrate the diversity in our school. The following books are read to the children either as part of their academic work, during PRIDE assemblies or during story time.

“Reading diverse stories with children is something that is incredibly important. It allows kids to not only see themselves represented in the books they read but also helps them to gain an understanding and build empathy for characters and communities they might not identify with. While children are exploring the world around them, it’s important that they have the opportunity to create a full picture rather than a puzzle with pieces missing.” Benjamin Dean

We are always on the look out for new books to read to our children. If you know of any great ones, why not send a dojo message to your child's class teacher.
