Time Travel with Maple Class... Ancient Egypt

As we approach summer time, Maple class can’t help but reflect on what an amazing first term we had together. We looked at the Ancient Egyptians and truly got stuck in with our learning. From finding and investigating Tutankhamun’s tomb to creating our very own pop-up mummy using a pneumatic mechanism, we explored what life was really like for those who lived in Egypt thousands of years ago.
One of our favourite (and slightly gruesome!) parts of the topic was learning all about mummies and the mysterious process of mummification. To really bring history to life, we even had a go at mummifying… a tomato! Yes, really—a tomato! We followed the same steps the Ancient Egyptians would have used: scooping out the inside, packing it with salt, wrapping it in linen (or tissue, in our case), and leaving it to dry. A few weeks later, we unwrapped our ‘mummies’ to discover they had shrivelled up, just like the real thing!
Overall, it was a fantastic start to the year, and we all are excited to keep on having fun and learning together over the rest of the year.
